The APD taxonomy list is elaborated by Dr. Annie Vincens as part of the APD Committee for nomenclature to allow easy extraction of data at any taxonomic level: species, genus or family, pollen types etc. This list includes all the pollen taxa recognized in the late Quaternary pollen sequences and modern samples collected in the database (original name). Misspelling, synonyms, and wrong nomenclature have been corrected and a new name is assigned (proposed name) after study of the reference pollen slides. A type is added to the genus or to the species when several genera (in the same family) or several species (in the same genus) present a the same pollen morphology (same type). The nomenclature uses Lebrun and Stork (1991-1997) "Enumération des Plantes à fleurs d'Afrique Tropicale" (Genève, Conservatoire et Jardins botaniques de la ville de Genève).
